This weekend the 8th Annual Convoy Crestview Invitational will be held and this one is known for churning out most of the teams that make it to state in Division 4. Last year's state champion (Marion Local) and state runner-up (Norwalk St. Paul) were both here last year and this year, the two favorites for the D4 title again may meet in the second round of the invitational if the brackets hold. Some of the other teams there may have something to say. Last year Celina upset Marion Local in round one en route to the championship match, where they fell to NSP.
Here are the match-ups for this Saturday:
TOP BRACKET:
#5, DIV Convoy Crestview vs. Old Fort
#12, DII Celina vs. #29, DIV Fort Recovery
BOTTOM BRACKET:
#2, DIV Marion Local vs. Ottawa-Glandorf
#3, DIV Norwalk St. Paul vs. #20, DIII Milan Edison
My thoughts? Convoy Crestview needs a strong showing after not showing up last night to a below average Van Wert squad and losing in five games. I would sense they would advance and face Celina, though you cannot take Ft. Recovery for granted. In the bottom bracket, Marion Local will roll into the second round, but the first round upset alert may come from a resurgent Milan Edison squad against NSP, which would be a shame because it would destroy the marquee matchup of ML and NSP! Who made up this bracket? Clearly NSP and ML should have been in different brackets! Regardless, we will know just how good ML and NSP, as well as Edison, Celina and Crestview after this tourney.
My prediction:
Crestview vs. Celina
Marion Local vs. NSP
Championship Match: NSP vs. Celina...again.
Champion: NSP
